Packer (Woburn, MA)

Position Title: Packer

Reports To: Director of Operations

Summary:

  • Plans, prepares, and packs product for shipment.
  • Uses, in most cases, standard boxes, crates or skids for shipments.
  • Constructs nonstandard boxes or containers if required.
  • Selects materials for packing or protection of product and method of bracing or blocking to prevent shifting or damage while in transit.
  • Checks against packing list for inclusion of all components and parts.
  • Applies required labels or stencils. Will also serve as backup driver, responsible for transport of materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Packages shipments using care with appropriate containers, protective inserts/padding, etc.
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers.
  • Operate circular, chop, and table saws as required.
  • Promote safety and ensure a safe work environment and safe work habits.
  • Ensure quality assurance standards are being met within required standards.
  • Train as needed.
  • Backup driver as needed to transport materials
  • Support lean manufacturing technologies.
  • Complete required reporting and administrative tasks, such as accurate and timely job lock-ins and lockouts, vacation request, performance metrics, Quick and Easy Kaizen, 5S audits, quality/scrap, etc.
  • Ensure operation of equipment by following preventive maintenance requirements.
  • Participate in daily meetings.
  • Share information and participate for process improvement projects as identified and directed.
  • Support lean manufacturing technologies.
  • Perform all other job duties as required.
  • Possess a responsible and proactive attitude, a good attendance record and handle assignments in an exemplary manner.
  • Demonstrate high expectations for yourself.

  • Agree to further education and development by attending classes, schools, and seminars.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic wood working skills – hammer, saw, measurements
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Possess a proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality of all customer and company information.
  • Good attendance.
  • Physical demands, if any.
  • Visual Acuity

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENCES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Valid Massachusetts drivers license
  • Successful completion of a D.O.T. physical exam required. (DOT card)

COMPANY / POSITION INFORMATION:

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour
